A Speech Contest on “Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi Today” for Schoolchildren in and around Gangtok

Gangtok, November 27 (IPR): A Speech Contest on “Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi Today” for Schoolchildren in and around Gangtok was held at Manan Kendra today. The programme was organized by Culture Department, Government of Sikkim in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India which has been organising different programmes to commemorate the 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi from 2nd October till 31 December 2020.

On the occasion, Vishal Kumar Sha of Tashi Namgyal Sr. Secondary School bagged the first position followed by Apeksha Uniyal of Deorali Girls Sr. Secondary School and Ritam Santra of Tashi Namgyal Sr. Secondary School respectively.

The contest was organized in the presence of Secretary Culture Department Smt Sherap Shenga and also attended by Incharge and representatives of different Schools, participants, officials and staff of Culture Department.

The Joint Director Culture Department Smt. Sonam Wangmu Shenga, Principal of Sichey Senior Secondary School Smt. Yangchuk Donka and Assistant Director of IPR Department Smt. Karma Tshering Dolma Bhutia was the esteemed panel of judges.

The Secretary of Culture Department thanked the judges and welcomed all the participants, teachers, and in charge of the various schools.

The students were well prepared and exhibited great oratorical skills and rhetoric to convince the audience. The participants had shown great confidence and ably expressed themselves that made their arguments, more interesting and lively.

The competition was worth enjoying for the audience as every speaker was cheered and clapped for their pleasing presentation and sharp arguments.

The event witnessed the participants from different schools namely Bojoghari Sr. Secondary School, Deorali Girls Sr. Secondary School, Enchey Sr. Secondary School, Modern Sr. Secondary School, Tadong Sr. Secondary School, Sichey Sr. Secondary School, and Tashi Namgyal Sr. Secondary School.

Later, the Secretary of Culture Department also extended a free membership for accessing State Library to all the participating students along with certificates and gift hampers.

The program concluded by the vote of thanks proposed by Officer on Special Duty Culture Department, Shri Bhawani Shankar Ghimiray.
