HCM laid the foundation stone of Smart Police Station cum Crises Response Centre at Namchi

Namchi, 8th January (IPR): The Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. Prem Singh Tamang laid the foundation stone of Smart Police Station cum Crises Response Centre under Namchi Smart City at the premises of Namchi Police Station, today. He was accompained by Hon’ble Minister Urban Develpment Department Shri. Arun Kumar Upreti, Hon’ble Minister Transport Department Shri. Sanjeet Kharel, Director General of Police Shri. A. Shanker Rao, other dignitaries and representatives from police personnels at large.

Addressing, the gathering Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. Prem Singh Tamang extended his congratulations to the entire police department on the first of it’s kind smart police station and crises response centre foundation stone laying occasion at, Namchi. The Hon’ble Chief Minister informed that the budget for this smart police station is being borne by smart city division and will consist of state of art equipments. As smart city is going to be a reality in the near future it is extremely imperative for the State Government to put together the infrastructure for the police force imbibing seamless technology which can aid in providing urban security in a holistic and sustainable way. He also underlined that by boosting police infrastructure can lead to increase in the capacity of police force and also will upgrade services provided by the department particularly by civil police as they are responsible in maintaining law and order and prevention of crime at their concerned areas. Smart Police Station resembling Namchi will also be recommended in Geyzing and Nayabazar and at entry points of Melli and for the same land is being scouted.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that the State Government will commence with ‘Outstanding Police Awards’ for their commendable service and promotion if necessary will also be explored. The notification for the same will be issued soon. The Government will also open recruitment process in the department and that they will also look into the promotion of followers, constables and other office-bearer.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister also acknowledged and applauded Pakyong Police Station in East Sikkim for being ranked seventh best police station in India, which he added reflects the way Sikkim Police works with an uncompromising and dedicated manner.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister also updated as to how the State Government is propelling women police officers to be a driving force in the department and spoke about some highly acclaimed women police and encouraged the gathering to apprise women to take up policing as a choice of job. He also said that the State Government is making earnest efforts in co-ordinating Indian Police Service and State Police Service so that they can serve and live up towards the expectation of the government and the public alike. He also further suggested the Police Department and Urban Development Department to work in tandem and clean the Bazaar area of the state. He added to make Sikkim ‘Nasha Mukta’ and notified that if any police personnel is found engaging in any drug related issues then after due investigation the said personnel will be requested to go for compulsory retirement.

Delving into health sector the Hon’ble Chief Minister said that Namchi will soon have a 300 bedded hospital and emphasized that health sector will always be prioritised by the Government. He mentioned that the State Government has also shouldered the responsibility to give dialysis in all the district of the state.

Hon’ble Minister Urban Develpment Department Shri. Arun Kumar Upreti spoke about the objective of smart city and highlighted how smart city functions which is governed by various factors such as population and other demographics.

Likewise, DGP A. Shanker Rao spoke about the functions and other aspects of the department. He also thanked the State Government for their relentless support in uplifting the department especially during the challenging time of pandemic wherein the government gave additional vehicles to the department for smooth operation. He on behalf of the police department appreciated the support shown by the State Government especially during the time of adversity and assured that from the department’s side they will give their best in service to the public.

DIG (Range) Shri. Prawin Gurung spoke about SMART police which stand for five set of principles which are Strict and Sensitive, Modern and Mobile, Alert and Accountable, Reliable and Responsive and Techno Savvy and Trained.

Similarly, Additional Chief Town Planner, Namchi Smart City Ltd Shri. Navin Rai informed the project detail and said that building ‘SMART’ police station is one of an important feature. Shri. Rai said that the existing police station is located at the end of Central Park near Kisan Bazaar complex and currently houses two storied. The proposed Police Crises Response Centre will be constructed on the open ground adjacent to the existing police station and after the completion of the project, the existing building will be dismantled and converted into an open parole ground. The new structure will consist of four storied unit with the base level of parking space. The area of the new structure is 4070 Sqft per floor and the area of the parole ground is 3800 Sqft. He added that the completion for the project is approximately 18 months.
