2nd Phase of the Covid Vaccination drive begins in Sikkim

Gangtok, March 1 (IPR): A Press Conference was called by the Health Department in relation to the launching of the 2nd phase of the Vaccination drive in Sikkim. The Press Conference was chaired by Shri. K. Sreenevasulu, Principal Secretary (Health); Dr. T. Yamphel, PDHS cum MD NHM; Dr. Phumzay Denzongpa, Director-RCH cum State Immunization Officer and Dr. Tsering Doma ADHS-Immunization.

Principal Secretary Health stated that the Health Department is thankful for the health care and frontline workers who have been dedicatedly serving their roles during the pandemic. He also thanked the Government of India for their unhindered support during the whole operation of vaccination which has been going on in all the Indian states.

Shri. Srinivasulu also informed the general public that major priority would now be given to the senior citizens residing in Sikkim which would be done via the online registration as well as offline registration by visiting the Covid Vaccination Centre with their relevant documents and Certificate of comorbidity available for download by the beneficiary which needs to be signed by a Medical Doctor for the age of 45 to 59 years the only category.

He informed that the age criteria for the Covid Vaccination in the second phase are all citizens that are aged, or will attain the age of, 60 years or more on 1st January 2022 and all citizens that are aged, or will attain the age of 45 years to 59 years as on 1st January 2022 and have any of the specified comorbidities, which have been recommended by National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (NEGVAC) who need to visit the Covid Vaccine Centres. He also stated that the hesitation towards the vaccination must end and added that the Indian manufactured vaccination is safe and reliable as the Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi also got himself vaccinated recently.

He also urged the public to support the vaccination process. He further informed that the Health Department is dedicatedly working towards planning the strategies and schedule of the Vaccination Centre in Sikkim for which information will be provided in due time.

The important information in relation to the vaccination is the relevant documents to be carried by the beneficiary while registering for the Covid Vaccine, which is Aadhar card (Compulsory) and/or Voters Card/PAN Card/Driving License. The above documents can be uploaded to the site and must be carried by the beneficiary during the process of availing of the vaccination. The beneficiary can also avail of the vaccination by visiting the Vaccination Booth and registering in the designated vaccination booth.

The designated COVID Vaccination centers are STNM, Socheygang, Urban PHC Gangtok, All-District Hospitals, Community Health Centres (CHCs), and Primary Health Centres (PHCs). He also informed that the vaccination would be provided free of costs to all however those who desire to avail the vaccination at Manipal Hospital would be required to pay Rs. 250/- per dose.
