The scrutiny of nomination papers of 29 wards under GMC, SNP and RNP

Gangtok, March 9 (IPR): The scrutiny of nomination papers of one hundred and thirty-seven candidates of twenty-nine wards under Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Singtam Nagar Panchayat, and Rangpo Nagar Panchayat were undertaken at the Office of Municipal Returning Officer, East (MRO, East) Shri Ragul K. in the presence of candidates, today. The scrutiny was overseen by the Election Observers for all wards of Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Shri Tshewang Gyachho, Secretary Social Justice and Welfare Department, and all wards for Rangpo and Singtam Nagar Panchayat, Shri Kuber Bhandari, Secretary Excise Department.

During the scrutiny, the nomination papers of ninety-one candidates of nineteen wards falling under Gangtok Municipal Corporation were done ward wise wherein eighty-nine were accepted by the Municipal Returning Officer, East. Nominations of two candidates one each from Lower Sichey ward and Lower MG Marg-Lall Bazar ward were not accepted.

The nomination papers of all twenty-one candidates for five wards under Singtam Nagar Panchayat were accepted by the MRO, East. In Rangpo Nagar Panchayat, twenty-five nominations were filed by the candidates for five wards, wherein two candidatures were rejected and twenty-three were accepted. The nominations of two candidates one each from Mandi Bazar ward and from Chanatar ward were not accepted.

In the scrutiny, the Municipal Returning Officer also explained in detail the Model Code of Conduct and clarified some queries put forth by the candidates. He also handed over a booklet on the Model Code of Conduct to the candidates and further apprised on the do’s and don’t of MCC.

It may be mentioned that the last date for withdrawal of candidature (if any) is until 3 pm on 11th March 2021. After 3 pm on the same day, a symbol of all contesting candidates will be allotted by the MRO East.
