Mangan, March 24 (IPR): World TB Day organised by District TB Centre, District Hospital Mangan was observed at Pentok, Mangan, today. Each year, World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is observed on March 24 to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.
The theme for this year is “TB HAREGA DESH JITEGA- THE CLOCK IS TICKING”. The chief guest for the day was the Chief Medical Officer- District Hospital Mangan Shri T. T. Kaleon. He was accompanied by District Medical Superintendent Dr. Rinzing D Bhutia, DRCHO Dr. Tara Gautam and Zilla Panchayat Shri. Mark Tshering Lepcha.
District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. Doma Bhutia provided a brief introduction of tuberculosis and also spoke on the present scenario of TB cases and its prevalence in the North District and the State.
Shri. Bikal Gurung (TB Champion) shared his experience as a TB patient for almost 10 years and his journey in overcoming the disease. He also encouraged other patients to fight against the disease and not to get disheartened of the stigmas and misconceptions regarding the illness. He stated that after overcoming TB, he has built his confidence and is concentrating on his mission of education by running a private school in Mangan.
