Namchi, 16th April (IPR): Hon’ble Minister Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Shri. L. N. Sharma attended Krishi cum Pashudhan Mela, 2021 for Rangang-Yangang and Tumin Lingee constituencies at Paleythang today. He was accompained by Secretary Animal Husbandry Dr. Sangey Dorjee, Secretary Agriculture Shri. Rinzing Chewang, Secretary Horticulture Shri. M. T. Sherpa, MD Sikkim Milk Union Shri. A. B. Karki representative from Bank, Officials and Public at large.
Addressing, the gathering Hon’bleMinister Shri. L.N. Sharma said that the State Government has always aided the farmers and their produce. He exerted about the program and also spoke in brief regarding ‘Future is Farming’ scheme of the State Government which will give impetus to the farming community and market their produce. He also said that farmers are one of the front line warriors during the pandemic time as they were the ones who were sending the Vegetable to the markets thereby feeding an entire population of the State and thank them for their services. He also encouraged the youths to take up farming as a profession as farming is Self-reliant and it has the potential to have a perenial source of income. Moreover, he said that Sikkim and it’s citizens can take up farming and become ‘Aatma Nirbhar’.
The Hon’ble Minister also apprised the gathering about the various schemes that the State Government has initiated for the benefit of farmers. He highlighted some of them which are Rainbow Rooster Scheme, Floriculture, Piggery and many more. He also said that the State Government is working on Rain Water Harvesting Scheme and many more farmer welfare schemes.
The Hon’ble Minister also launched ‘Future is Farming’ during the programme. The focal point of this project is Sikkim Agriculture with the subject ‘Dive into farming and sell your farm fresh produce to shops, restaurants or directly to home’. Future is Farming will encourage one and all to practice Farming thereby transforming Sikkim into a self sufficient farming state.
Secretary’s Animal Husbandry, Agriculture and Horticulture spoke about the various schemes available with the concerned departments. They all reiterate that these schemes are meant for the elevation of the progressive farmers of the State. They also put forth various suggestions and other advices to assist the progressive farmers revolving around field, crops and cattles. They all added that the Animal Husbandry, Agriculture and Horticulture departments is always ready to serve the people with inputs and other conveniences.
Progressive farmer cum President Organizing committee Krishi Mela Shri. D. N. Dahal was also felicitated by the Hon’ble Minister Shri. L.N. Sharma for his relentless work and encouraging people in his vicinity to take up farming and its allied activities.
During the course of the programe a cheque of Rs. Four Lakh Fifty Thousand was given to establish Lingmoo Milk Collection Centre. Additionally, Milk Can, Mineral Mixture and other amenities were also distributed on behalf of Sikkim Milk Union.
The mela saw a total of 18 stalls which had Organic Vegetable, flowers and various stuffs produced by Self Help Groups and farmers. Hon’ble Minister also distributed tokens and other equipments to various beneficaries.
