Inter-School Final Debate Competition in Tamang Language organised by Sikkim Akademi in collaboration with Language Section Education Department

Gangtok, April 7 (IPR): The Inter-School Final Debate Competition in Tamang Language on the topic ‘Sikchhan Pranalima Matri Bhasa Ko Prayog lay Matra Sarvangeen Vikas Garna Sakinchha/ Sakdaina’ was held at the Mini Hall, Manan Kendra, today. The debate competition was organised by Sikkim Akademi in collaboration with Language Section, Education Department.

Padmashree Shri G.S. Lama graced the programme as the Chief Guest. Secretary Culture Department Smt Sherap Shenga, Sikkim Akademi President Shri S.R. Subba, President, Nepali Sahitya Parishad Shri Rudra Poudyal, former President, Sikkim Tamang Buddhist Association Shri Kumar Yonzon, General Secretary Sikkim Tamang Buddhist Association Shri Adeep Tamang, Retired Secretary Shri Hem Chettri, Officials from various departments, Tamang language teachers and students of various Schools and officials of Culture Department were also present.

Language Board Chairman Tamang Language Shri Norbu Dumzon, Deputy Director Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Smt Sumitra Dong, Sub Editor Tamang Language, IPR Department Shri Nima Tamang were the panel of Judges.

The final debate competition was held between Salghari Secondary School for the motion and Maniram Secondary School against the motion, both from the South District, wherein the former team adjudged as the winner.

On the occasion, Phurmit Lepcha from Maniram Secondary School was presented the Best Speaker award along with a memento and cash prize. A trophy and Letter of Appreciation was also presented to all the participating students.

The Chief Guest in his brief address congratulated the schools that had made up to the final round. He said that the debate competition is one of the academic activities that gives the students a creative room to express their opinions and perspectives which can also enhance confidence, knowledge and capacity in them.

He stated that the language is the vital tool for communication and added that the students showcased their oratorical skills and potential with enthusiasm and dedication and made the event a lively one.
