Namchi, June 17 (IPR) : The Hon’ble Minister, Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Shri Lok Nath Sharma carried out field visit of departmental infrastructures and farms under Melli constituency, South Sikkim, today. He was accompanied by the Hon’ble MLA-cum-Chairman DACS/ Economic Revival Committee, Shri Sonam Tshering Venchungpa, Secretary Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Dr Sangey D Bhutia, Additional Director (South) Dr Mala Bajgain, Joint Director-cum-MD (SLP&DC) Dr Sunita Joshi, Joint Director Agriculture (South) Dr. Pratap Subba, officials, field functionaries and others.
At first, Minister Sharma visited the ongoing construction of a Modern Abattoir for Poultry Birds at Melli Dara, South Sikkim. The visiting team inspected the two storied infrastructures and its various units including Blast Freezer Area, Cold Storage Area, Meat Receiving Area. Thereafter, the visiting team had a brief session on work progress and Minister Sharma directed the concerned contractor to expedite the construction work so that the Poultry Processing Unit will be functional by March 2022.
Thereafter, Minister Sharma visited Pig Breeding Farm at Mellidara and discussed for strengthening and output generating progress of the farm. Afterwards, he visited Veterinary Hospital and enquired about the availed facilities, existing infrastructures, manpower strength etc.
Later, he stopped at the Farm of Agriculture and Horticulture Department at Melli dara. He interacted with the staff and field functionaries and further encouraged them to be determined and dedicated in showing impressive performances of the government farms.
Afterwards, the inspection team visited the ongoing construction of Poultry Feedmill.
Speaking to media, Minister Sharma informed on the purpose of daylong visit, to expedite the work progress and functionalise the important infrastructures like Poultry Processing Unit, Feedmill at the earliest. He said that the state government under the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) has given utmost importance to livestock farming, Agriculture and Horticulture Sectors and the operation of these infrastructures would be instrumental in supplying of required organic feed for the farmers.
He also highlighted financial incentives initiated by the state government and urged people to adopt agriculture/ livestock farming at large scale.
