Gangtok, Oct 21: The State level launch and Workshop on Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2021 were held at the conference hall, Rural Development Department on 21.10.2021. The programme was chaired by the Principal Secretary RDD, Shri C.S Rao and was joined by the Special Secretary-cum-Mission Director SBM(G), Mrs Sarika Pradhan. The programme had in attendance ADCs (Dev) North and East Districts along with their respective officials/ District Coordinators. ADCs (Dev) from South and West Districts with their coordinators joined the programme via Video Conference.
The Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti has been carrying out Swachhata Survekshan Grameen (SSG) since 2018. The objective of the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2021 is to encourage large scale citizen participation, rank states and districts according to key swacchhata parameters, compare the performance of districts and states, ascertain the progress of swachhata on the ground through a survey, engage and solicit feedback from citizens and evaluate the implementation of solid and liquid waste management arrangements in the districts.
The Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2021 will be conducted by IPSOS Research Private Limited (Survey Agency). 88 villages across Sikkim shall be randomly surveyed for this year’s SSG.
The workshop was held to inform, engage, familiarize and support the state and district level officials on the various facets of the survey methodology, survey process and indicators of the new SSG protocol.
The resource person from IPSOS, Shri Sahabuddin Sheikh, made a detailed presentation on SSG 2021. In his presentation, he explained that the on-field data collection will be done sometime in mid-November and eventually the states and districts shall be ranked. The protocol document has been prepared for the states and districts to have a clear understanding of the tasks to carry out their assessment in the survey.
The programme was also addressed by the Principal Secretary RDD and the Mission Director SBM(G). Pertinent queries raised by participants during the programme were cleared by representatives of IPSOS (survey agency) and consultants from the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti who had joined the meeting via video conference.
