The day-long programme of Sikkim Sahitya Utsav 2021

Gangtok, Nov 26 (IPR): Poetry recitation by renowned litterateurs and upcoming poets, Awards and recognition to noted literary figures, the release of books, and cultural presentations marked the Sikkim Sahitya Utsav 2021, a literary event, held at Manan Kendra, today. The day-long programme was organized by Hamro Varta Television to mark its second foundation day.

The event was graced by Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang as the chief guest and his spouse Smt Krishna Rai as a special guest. The programme had the presence of Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Shri L.B. Das, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Chairpersons and Advisors, renowned film actor from Nepal Shri Bhuwan KC, a renowned poet from Darjeeling Smt Pavitra Lama, a renowned poet from Nepal Shri Navaraj Parajuli, other renowned literary personalities, and an audience comprising literature-lovers and students.

On this occasion, the organizing committee felicitated Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang.

Likewise, the following literary personalities were felicitated by the Chief Minister to honour their contribution to the field of literature:

3. Shri Gupta Pradhan

4. Shri K.N. Sharma

5. Smt Beena Shree Kharel

6. Ms Sashi Sherpa

7. Rachna Books and Publications

Two books, namely Aabha – a Hamro Varta Television 2nd Year Special Edition, and Lokayan Ma Baancheka Nepali Lok Sanskriti by noted artist Shri Narendra Gurung, were released on the occasion by Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang.

The programme was also addressed by MP Lok Sabha, Shri Indra Hang Subba, and Political Secretary to HCM Shri Jacob Khaling.

The highlight of the event was the poetry recitation by renowned guest poets – Shri Manoj Bogati from Kalingpong, Shri Pravin Rai Jumeli from Sikkim, Smt Pavitra Lama from Darjeeling and Shri Navraj Parajuli from Nepal.

The programme was neatly punctuated by colourful cultural presentations by local artists.

Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang in his brief address congratulated the entire team of Hamro Varta Television for organizing the literary event successfully. He also extended his special greetings to all the guest poets and artists.

The Chief Minister made a few key announcements on the occasion:

1. From 2022 onwards, the Government of Sikkim will organize the ‘Sikkim Literary Festival’ as an annual calendar event.

2. The State Government will institutionalize ‘APATAN Fellowship’ which will provide fellowship to individuals pursuing PhD in any of the State languages.

3. The State Government will place the creation of the ‘Sikkim Language Board’ in the State Legislative Assembly for the development of all the languages of the State.

The programme concluded with the felicitation of all the guest artists and distribution of awards and certificates to the participants of various competitions such as poetry recitation, book review, painting and elocution.
